Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage through the wrist that is made up of the bones of the wrist on one side and a large ligament of the wrist (transverse ligament) on the other side. An important nerve (median nerve) that and several tendons run through the tunnel. When this nerve is compressed it will cause symptoms including:

  • Pain in the wrist and hand
  • Numbness
  • Pins and needles
  • Pain referred up to the elbow
  • Weakness in the hand

There are several causes of Carpal tunnel syndrome with the most common being:

  • Incorrect position of the bones of the wrist
  • Overuse activities and repetitive strain
  • Falling onto the hand
  • Arthritis
  • Swelling associated with pregnancy
  • Anything that can cause the wrist to swell decreasing the size of the carpal tunnel

It is also important to understand that there are other problems that can cause wrist and hand pain that are not Carpal tunnel. A common one is a neck problem referring pain down the arm.

Several members of our team have undergone additional training to treat wrist problems.

Our treatment may improve the function of the wrist, and lead to a decrease in carpal tunnel symptoms.

There are times where we may not be able to help, so we have a network of great practitioners that we can refer you to when needed.

If you are experiencing wrist and hand symptoms or have been diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, call the office on 40313388 to find out if we may be able to help.

Care that is tailored to your body.
